Diploma
in Hypnotherapy
(fast
track course for mental health professionals)
Introduction:
a 6 day accredited hypnotherapy course in London and Sheffield that includes
everything the 20 day course provides, minus the knowledge and skills
that qualified psychotherapists, counsellors, psychiatrists, psychologists
and mental health nurses would already be expected to have.
Applicants
will already have a sound knowledge of the presenting issues they routinely
work with. We will explore the unique aspects of hypnotherapy in relation
to presenting issues but otherwise assume prior knowledge of these. It
is anticipated that applicants will already understand concepts common
to other psychotherapies, such as empathy, rapport and reflective practice,
for example, and they simply want to add hypnotherapy to their toolkit.
Led
by 2 highly qualified and experienced trainers who run a busy private
hypnotherapy practice. Paul is a Chartered Psychologist and Karen is a
Hypnotherapist and Health Psychologist in training.
Perhaps
you are looking for new tools for stuck clients, to create a 'safe place'
before interventions, an extra income stream in private practice, or you're
simply fascinated by the subject of hypnotherapy!
A 6 day training
can appear quite short to those used to lengthy trainings. Please be reassured
that it provides all you need to know and is equal in length to most EMDR
training - another therapy that can be dovetailed with exisiting knowledge
and skills and aimed at those with a core caring and psychologically-based
profession. Our longer 20 day hypnotherapy training is appropriate for
those with no core therapeutic skills or psychological knowledge, and/or
insufficient recent clinical experience or confidence.
Dates
(Fast Track Hypnotherapy Course): the course
runs in two 3 day Modules (Friday to Sunday, 10am - 5pm). The modules
must be taken in sequence and attended in full.

Eligibility:
you must have a core profession where you ordinarily deal with people
in a caring and helping capacity, and where you offer psychological interventions.
Typical applicants are therefore likely to be psychotherapists, counsellors,
psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health nurses. There may be other
relevant professions. If in doubt, please get in touch to discuss your
circumstances.
Hypnotherapy
sits well with any other approach including CBT, psychodynamic, client-centred
and solution focused approaches. At the end of the course you will have
everything you need to either integrate hypnotherapy with your existing
skill set or practice as a fully fledged hypnotherapist.
Course
description: this is a very practical course with lots of work
in pairs as 'client' and 'therapist'. Some people choose to work on real
issues and obtain some personal benefit from the course, others role play.
You will
receive a comprehensive manual, freeing up class time for engaging exercises.
We have fun and students regularly comment on how quickly each day passes
and yet how much they have learnt. The manual also includes hypnotherapy
scripts, information on presenting issues, techniques, ethical concerns,
etc. You can download a sample of the manual here.
Downloadable video demonstrations of some of the techniques are also provided
for students.
Homework:
this consists of a small number of short answer questions, practice with
clients away from the course and a reflective journal on this, as well
as ongoing informal assessment of practical work in class with lots of
support to help you improve. There are no exams, tests or essays and sourcing
clients to practice with is usually very easy - people are fascinated
to know what a trance feels like and some students find themselves with
waiting lists! Supervision and support is provided for the duration of
the course.
Accreditation:
The fast track hypnotherapy diploma course is accredited by one
of the largest professional bodies in hypnotherapy - the Hypnotherapy
Standards Council (who run the General Hypnotherapy Register), and the
National Council of Psychotherapists, the members of which generally practice
both psychotherapy and hypnotherapy.
Our 20-day diploma course is additionally accredited by the National Council
for Hypnotherapy (they require a 450 hour training because unfortunately
they have no mechanism for recognising transferable prior learning in
psychotherapy or counselling).
All of these
professional bodies are well-respected in hypnotherapy circles.
Both courses
meet the National Occupational Standards for hypnotherapy.
Professional
membership: if you intend to regularly offer hypnotherapy to
your clients we recommend professional membership. By completing this
course you would be able to apply for Affiliate or, most likely, Practitioner
Membership of the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), dependent upon
prior qualifications and experience. The GHR is the UK's largest register
of hypnotherapists with over 8,000 members.
You would
also be able to apply for Licentiate membership of the National Council
of Psychotherapists (NCP). A higher level can be applied for immediately
following qualification by some individuals, on a case by case basis,
dependant upon other relevant qualifications and experience.
We anticipate
all graduates of our course will gain full membership of both the GHR
and NCP. However, if you have any doubts, you are advised to contact these
organisations individually. Details are provided in the prospectus.
You may also
work towards a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma upon graduation from
this course. This would entitle you to Licentiate membership of the National
Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). It is they, and NCFE who offer this external
award. You would do this through the NCH's 'Individual Portfolio route'.
Please contact them for details (www.hypnotherapists.org.uk).
The homework
is more intensive for this and the cost is £50-100 depending on
whether you opt for a private tutor. There are around 80 questions to
answer as well as a statement of personal and professional philosophy,
vignettes, and submission of a recorded hypnotherapy session with a client.
Licentiate level is the level all new hypnotherapists enter at, regardless
of course length. You may apply to upgrade to registered member status
after one year in practice and a minimum of 100 client hours using hypnotherapy
as a primary modality.
Fees:
£995 with no VAT to pay. A non-refundable deposit of £195
is payable upon application. The deposit is fully refundable if your application
is declined. A further payment of £400 must be paid 14 days before
the course commences and a final payment of £400 is payable 14 days
before the second module commences.
Content:
the learning materials, including manual and video, cover all you would
need to know to get you practising as as a competent, ethical and effective
hypnotherapist.
We will provide
you with the manual as delivered to our 20 day course students. Some topics
should be familiar to you but for the sake of completeness and to be sure,
we include them all. Live training focuses on those aspects that students
would not necessarily already know - the unique aspects of hypnotherapy.
