Meet the hypnotherapy trainers

Paul Peace

Paul is a Chartered Psychologist and works full time in clinical hypnotherapy training and at his hypnotherapy practice in Sheffield. He has an academic background in psychology. He obtained a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology Hypnotherapy trainer - Paul Peacein 1998 from Sheffield Hallam University. He continued his studies at Sheffield Hallam University and obtained his doctorate in Psychology and Social Constructionism in 2001.

You can rest assured that you will be receiving training of the highest calibre. Although it is not necessary to be a psychologist to be a successful hypnotherapist, it can certainly do no harm to be trained by one! You will receive psychology training and gain a greater understanding of your client's minds as well as self-growth along the way.

Paul's training experience includes devising and delivering courses to BSc Psychology and BA Nursing undergraduates at Sheffield Hallam University. The Psychology course was accredited by the British Psychological Society. Paul has published papers in academic journals and presented a paper at an international conference on language and gender at Stanford University, California. He is currently working on a project with numerous professional bodies to establish an evidence base for hypnotherapy.

In his clinical work with private clients Paul uses hypnotherapy, NLP, EMDR, and an eclectic mixture of psychotherapy approaches. He is a partner in a successful hypnotherapy practice in Sheffield (visit the Sheffield Hypnosis website), seeing clients for a wide spectrum of issues, most often for low confidence and self-esteem, phobia and smoking cessation. He also provides NLP life coaching and is a National Council for Hypnotherapy, National Council of Psychotherapists and General Hypnotherapy Register Accredited Hypnotherapy Supervisor.

His clinical qualifications are Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, Diploma in Hypnotherapy, EMDR trained (Part 3), Master Practitioner of Timeline Re-Patterning and NLP Master Practitioner. He has trained in NLP Modelling with the one of the co-founders of NLP and founder of New Code NLP, John Grinder, and Carmen Bostic St Clair.

Paul is a Registered Member and Senior Clinician of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (MNCH), full Member of the National Council of Psychotherapists (MNCP) member of the General Hypnotherapy Register and Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. Along with Karen Bartle, he is co-developer of Discursive Empowerment - a new therapy that draws on Narrative Therapy and the insights of the latest revolution in Psychology - Social Constructionism.

Karen Bartle

Karen completed her MSc Health Psychology in 2010. She completed her first degree in Psychology in 1998. Her work has been varied and wide ranging. After graduating, she initially worked as a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University teaching undergraduate students on the British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited BSc Hons Psychology course and BA Nursing course Hypnotherapy trainer - Karen Bartle(adult mental health route). She taught subjects such as health and abnormal psychology, research methods, biological foundations of behaviour and psychological development of the child.

For over 4 years, Karen worked as a graduate psychologist in the NHS. She has experience of working with staff and patients within a large residential unit for people with severe and enduring mental health issues including schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder, and within a specialist community team assessing and supporting people with autism and learning disabilities who presented challenges to services. Her previous work also includes counselling victims of crime and working with adult offenders being supervised by the probation service.

Karen is a partner in a successful private clinical and medical hypnotherapy practice in Sheffield (visit the hypnotherapy sheffield website). She uses an eclectic mix of hypnotherapy, NLP and various psychotherapy approaches. She sees clients with a wide range of issues and has a particular interest in weight control, anxiety & stress management, confidence & smoking cessation. Her clinical qualifications include a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, and Practitioner of NLP.

Karen is a member of the Hypnotherapy Association and General Hypnotherapy Register. She is co-developer, along with Paul Peace, of Discursive Empowerment. She is an accredited hypnotherapy supervisor (GHR and NCP).
